Terms & Conditions

These Terms & Conditions outline the basis of my bespoke service as your celebrant.
They apply to all ceremonies commissioned with Richard Jansen Celebrant and are designed to give clarity and reassurance — so you know exactly what to expect, and can feel confident that every detail is handled with care.

1. Services

I will work with you to create and deliver a bespoke wedding ceremony. This includes consultation, the writing and editing of a ceremony script, rehearsal attendance if agreed, and officiating on the day itself. I only ever commission one ceremony per day, ensuring my complete focus is with you.

2. Commissioning Fee

A non-refundable commissioning fee of 30% is required to confirm your date. Until this fee is received, your date cannot be guaranteed.

3. Balance of Fees

The balance of the agreed fee is due no later than six weeks before the ceremony. Late payment may result in cancellation of services.

4. Travel & Accommodation

Travel within 50 miles of Oxfordshire is included. Beyond this, mileage is charged at 45p per mile. If accommodation is required (for example, for rehearsals or early start times), this will be discussed and agreed in advance. For destination weddings, all travel and accommodation costs are the responsibility of the couple, arranged with transparency and in good time. For long-haul travel (typically over seven hours), business-class flights may be required to ensure I arrive rested and fully focused on your ceremony.

5. Rehearsals

I am happy to attend a rehearsal if requested and schedules permit. If the rehearsal is more than 50 miles from Oxfordshire, overnight accommodation will be required.

6. Changes & Cancellations

  • If you cancel more than six weeks before the ceremony, any balance already paid (beyond the commissioning fee) will be refunded.

  • If you cancel within six weeks of the ceremony, no refund can be given.

  • If you postpone, every effort will be made to transfer your commission to a new date, subject to availability.

  • In the unlikely event that I am unable to officiate (e.g. illness or emergency), I will provide a suitable replacement celebrant or refund all fees paid.

7. Legalities

Please note: a celebrant-led wedding is not a legal marriage in England & Wales. You will need to complete the legal registration separately with a registrar or relevant authority.

For overseas weddings, you are responsible for ensuring that all legal protocols are followed in the country where your marriage is to be registered. My role is to create and deliver your bespoke ceremony; I do not provide legal marriage services abroad.

8. Creative Rights

The ceremony script remains my intellectual property, but you will receive a keepsake copy of your ceremony text for personal use.

9. Discretion & Confidentiality

Discretion is central to my practice. I am happy to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) if required, and I treat all personal details, family circumstances, and ceremony content with complete confidentiality.

10. DBS Check

I hold a current enhanced DBS certificate, covering my work with families and children. This is part of my commitment to professionalism and reassurance.

11. Photography & Portfolio

With your permission, I may use discreet ceremony photographs, or anonymised excerpts of your script, for my portfolio and marketing. Consent will always be sought in advance.

12. Contract

A full contract will be issued at the time of commissioning, outlining all details of the service, fees, and policies with complete transparency.

13. Force Majeure

I cannot be held liable for circumstances beyond my control (including illness, severe weather, travel disruption, or other unforeseen events). In such cases, I will work with you to find a solution — either through a replacement celebrant or rescheduling if possible.
